Actually, we are in Kansas

To be honest, it wasn’t even his favorite race. Regardless, Nebraska Christian’s Hans Epp put an exclamation mark on his junior year of track by roaring back from next to last to winning last May’s Class C 800 meters at the Nebraska track meet, his 1:57:74 a new school record. Not bad considering Epp ran […]

Cleaning up the aftermath of a car chase Central City’s Troy Wells sweeps up the shatter-proof automotive glass broken out by law enforcement officers as they wrestled to subdue an intransigent driver and remove him from his Ford Taurus in the parking lot of Central City’s Kwik Stop on Highway 14 last Thursday night. The pursuit that led to the subject’s arrest had started as a traffic stop on the east edge of Chapman.

Patrol, deputies involved in Chapman-CC pursuit

What began as a simple traffic stop–Lewis E. Gowson, Jr., 59, of Polk County was stopped a Nebraska State Patrol officer on Highway 30 just east of Chapman last Thursday evening for driving 67 in a 60 zone–turned ugly very quickly when the driver did not comply with the trooper’s instructions.

Now you see it, now you see it again . . . and again Central City’s Rebecca Johnson snapped this sequence of photos during the April 14-15 “blood moon” eclipse, then collated the series to create an original work of art that demonstrates all of the phases of the eclipse. Johnson, an amateur photographer, used a tripod-mounted Nikon D3000 with an 18-200mm Tamron zoom lens to capture the images.

Nature in motion: the beauty of the night sky

You could say that art is in the blood for Central City resident Rebecca Johnson. You could say that–and you’d be right. Johnson has dabbled in amateur photography for years–“since the old-school days of film cameras,” she says–turning out artistic shots and the occasional wedding or graduation portfolio for friends. She has also tried her […]

Area vets enjoy Honor Flight

Leland Greving, Bob Davis and George Vosicky are not unfamiliar with travel.  They each, after all, packed up and made the trip from their Midwestern homes to take up temporary residence just south of the 38th parallel in the early 1950s. Of course, that trip was neither vacation nor leisure.  The three were on their […]
